As you may know, thousands (millions?) of Americans this morning rushed into department stores and malls to commemorate the annual “Black Friday”.

Whether you participated in the Black Friday festivities or not, here is a fantastic deal that will not make you stand in a seemingly endless line at checkout.

Visit LetsGoGreen.biz, find neat eco-friendly products, buy a present for yourself or to someone else. At checkout (while sitting relaxed in front of your computer screen), use coupon code SHM20, and you will instantly receive 20% off of everything in your cart.

Let’s start this trend of purchasing eco-friendly products, and let’s call it “A Green Friday”!

But, instead of just on Fridays, use coupon code SHM20 at LetsGoGreen.biz any day and any time, and you will receive the same 20% off of everything in your cart.

But I suggest you do it today, so you can forever claim that you joined in on the first annual Green Friday event!

A sincere ‘thank you’ to all those who made the Green Media Alliance of Tucson green marketing event a great success! The event started out with an informative 3-hour green marketing 101 workshop by the nation’s leading expert on green marketing and innovation, Jacquelyn Ottman. The workshop was followed by a great opportunity for Tucson business leaders to network and to learn about the great eco-responsible businesses in Tucson.

At noon, the luncheon featured a keynote speech by Jacquelyn Ottman, which highlighted ways through which businesses can use sustainability as a pathway to business growth and a way to help businesses thrive in these tough economic times.

It was so wonderful to see more than 200 business leaders in the Tucson area come together at this event. The event was featured on the 6 pm KGUN9 news and the video clip is available online.

The event was a great success. I would like to send a sincere thank you to all those who made the event a great success. Particularly, I would like to acknowledge our great sponsors: Doubletree Hotel Reid Park, Cox Communications, Wells Fargo, Arizona Lithographers, Tucson Electric Power Company, Arizona Party Rental, Elastek, Legendary World Travel, Seaver Franks Architects, and Schaffer Dry Cleaning & Laundry.

We are very proud of our great sponsors! In fact, in the next couple of weeks, I will post blog entries highlighting the sincere efforts that each and every one of our sponsors is conducting toward greener and more eco-responsible business practices.

For additional information, please visit the Green Media Alliance of Tucson website.

Recently, AGreenArizona has joined forces with a few fabulous organizations in the Tucson area to form the Green Media Alliance.

The Green Media Alliance is a local organization in Tucson composed of Cox Media, the Tucson Green Times newspaper, Mrs. Green Goes Mainstream Radio Show, Who’s Green? (WhosGreenAz.com) and AdVision Outdoor.

We are very excited about our partnership! Together, we are working toward providing businesses and individuals with the education and resources that will help build a sustainable community and preserve our planet’s resources.

We are an ambitious bunch and we have many goals and objectives. One of our goals is to present special events to help educate individuals, businesses, and organizations, and that provide resources for building a stronger, more sustainable Tucson community.

Given today’s uncertain economy, our first planned event is geared toward helping Tucson businesses learn how to survive these tough economic times.

We are very grateful to our sponsors (on the left), who are helping us make this event a reality. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the Doubletree Hotel in Reid Park Tucson for their outstanding contribution to our event. To learn more about this exciting new event and how you can register, please visit the Green Media Alliance website.

More details are coming soon!

It is with great excitement to learn that a few days ago, TogetherGreen.org announced that the Tucson’s Barrio Kroeger Lane neighborhood has been awarded a $20,000 grant to restore the native desert habitat while reducing water usage and saving money.

This award is one of the 41 recently announced national innovation grants (funded by Toyota). It is a community-driven project that incorporates the best sustainability practices, such as water conservation, rain-water harvesting, and landscaping with native plants.

The project will be coordinated by the Tucson Audubon Society. For more information about the Tucson Innovation award, please visit TogetherGreen: Community Conservation in Tucson.

In addition, Phoenix also received a TogetherGreen Innovation Grant that will be coordinated by Audubon Arizona (National Audubon Society) and aims to raise awareness of the human-caused water pollution and its consequences on the environment. The project will be centered in the heart of Phoenix’s Rio Salado Habitat.

For more information about the Phoenix Innovation award, please visit TogetherGreen: River Keepers.

To learn more about TogetherGreen, to view other projects, or if you have an idea and would like to submit a proposal for your own project, please visit the TogetherGreen website.

I wanted to say that A Green Arizona is very proud of the going green efforts coming from all three of our major universities here in the great state of Arizona. Here are the official links and more info:

Arizona State University has started one of the nation’s first School of Sustainability, where students can earn bachelors, graduate, and professional degrees. Further, we are very proud to report that ASU recently has been named one of the nation’s greenest universities by The Princeton Review (read the full story).

The University of Arizona has recently hired a director for its Sustainability Program (read the full story). In addition, according to a report by the National Wildlife Federation and the Princeton Survey Research Associates International, the UA is one of the nation’s high achieving institutions when it comes to sustainability (read the full story). Finally, the U of A Campus Sustainability website provides various events, information, and resources for sustainability on- and off-campus.

Northern Arizona University has recently created the office for the Campus Sustanability Program.

We are very proud of these great efforts by our major universities to become more eco-responsible.
